An update from Mayor Annie Shaha

Dover continues to be a hub of activity including signs of spring with nesting geese, meandering moose and even a Killdeer sighting.

City Beach now has a safe, roped off swim area.  Before summer arrives new pea gravel will line the shores.  City Park was selected and welcomes the Kaniksu Land Trust Prescription Parks program aiming to strengthen the connection between the healthcare system and the outdoor park and trail systems in local communities.  Dover City Beach is considered a Level 1 park in the program due to friendly amenities including restrooms, benches, beaches and easy access.

Ruth Guthrie and Diane Brockway were elected to Council in November and join Councilmen Neal Hewitt and Bill Strand.  Thank you to Rowdy MacDonald for his time in helping the city move forward in a positive way during the past two years as Councilman.  City Council continues to provide the city with valuable guidance.  Current issues being tackled include a new sewer ordinance, gateway signage, and water and sewer facility plans.  Once again, Council approved the annual budget with no property tax increase.

The city appointed Tammy Anderson as Treasurer and Michele Hutchings as City Clerk.  Together they are making City Hall an efficient and welcoming place for all to visit.  City Hall was selected by POAC as an Ancillary Gallery enhancing your visit with local artwork for viewing and purchase.

Dover’s new planner, Lisa Ailport of Ruen-Yeager, is working diligently with Planning and Zoning on the P&Z ordinance as well as Dover’s future Comprehensive Plan.  Public input is vital and welcome in these activities.  Lisa is also busy with an active building season here in Dover.

The city welcomes J-U-B Engineers as City Engineer.  Already they are knee deep in water, sewer and street projects.

SPOT continues it’s explosive growth.  In fact, SPOT was recently nominated for the National Rural Transit System of the Year.  Please visit SPOT’s website for current information, including the recently completed strategic plan at www.spotbus.org.

Construction of the emergency access at the west end of Dover is completed. Please, no traffic (including pedestrian and bicycles) unless unlocked by an authorized party for emergency use.

Visit the city website www.cityofdover.id.gov.  There are daily efforts to keep it current to answer as many questions as possible regarding activities of City Council and other issues of importance.   If you have any suggestions for our site, please let us know.
